Insurance for student exchange to France?
I am going on a student exchange to France for about two and a half months, but my insurance does not cover me if i get sick or hurt over there. Does anyone know of any safe, reliable sites to buy health insurance from for the trip? any info would be helpful. thanks!

Something you definitely need in your documents pouch (leave the purse or wallet at home) is the International Student Identity Card. It gets you tons of great discounts, such as heavily discounted (or sometimes free) admission to museums and cool stuff like climbing the towers of cathedrals. Plus, it also comes with a student health insurance. You can get the ISIC at any STA Travel agency, through their Web site, through a college student travel office, or through www.myisic.com. I loved using the ISIC card when I was young enough to travel with it. It paid for itself in the first two days when I got free admission to two museums and a discount to climb the 366 steps of St. Peter's Church in Munich. What a view!

Check with international organizations located in the city where you are going. The French laws may be the same for them, but they may need people with skills, like English language which may exempt you.

It will be very difficult in France. If you only have a student visa. But you could possibly get work as an au pair. If you speak French, many families would like to have their children learn better English. Plus you would really be immersed in the culture. Do you have to live on campus? Most au pairs live with the family though. The French are also not exempt from hiring people for odd jobs. Speak French even if your accent is bad. You may be able to get a job helping in a restaurant or in someone's house.

You do not state your nationality, so I'm assuming that you are therefor an American. If you were English and an EU citizen, then the question wouldn't arise. I suggest that you ask at the nearest French consulate. Sash.

Working in France during your studies. French law allows foreign students to work under the following conditions : a maximum of 964 hours per year can be worked ( during the school year : part-time / during vacations periods : full-time within the 964 hours yearly limit).A proof of payment from Campusfrance.

It depends on what country you are from and the agreements your country has with the EU. In most cases, yes you can travel within the EU. Again--best to check first. There are places for online info. Search for the embassy website of your country and go to the travel/visa info page.

With a long-stay national visa (Type D) for Germany or a residence permit issued in Germany you can travel to all 24 other countries of the Schengen agreement to include Italy, France, and Spain. There are no governmental immigration controls on flights between Schengen countries. You just show your passport/visa/residence permit on check-in or security check, that's it. I'd bring a can of mace or something to protect yourself with. Never know who you're going to run into and we know how attractive our American girls can be! Watch "Taken" and you'll understand!
2 :
That all depends on your own personal needs. I suggest you check with your foster home in France and find out what will be provided to you during your stay in their house such as towels, etc.. Just check the weather so you'll know what type of clothes and shoes to bring.

If you don't speak and read france fluently you might need a booklet with basic france ( They don't know- or don't want to speak english )
