My bf will only be in France for 6mo. I read that residents of the EU can't use the pass and that they check your passport before you can use it. He's not exactly a resident, if they see a French visa in his passport is it still acceptable for him to use it?

if he is traveling with you, and you are the person holding the tickets, the person asking for the tickets are not reviewing all the passports, unless you are suspicious. they ask how many traveling and take a look at the person and that about it. good luck..:>

According to the Eurail FAQ ( http://eurail.lwb-online.info/index.php?view=cms_752 ) on the official website ( http://www.eurail.com ), the ticket is not valid for anybody who "has lived" in Europe for more than 6 months. So, in the case of your boyfriend who "plans" to stay in Europe for 6 months, he should be able to buy and use it. On the other hand, if he could reasonably claim that he is an European resident (for 6 months or more), he could take advantage of other offers, namely Interrail ( http://www.interrailnet.com/ ) and Eurodomino ( http://www.eurodomino.co.uk/ ) which are normally more advantageous than Eurail. Among others, they allow selection of a limited number of countries (even a single one, but never the country of residence), flexible days (e.g., 3 - 8 days within a month for Eurodomino) and second class travel, which both may contribute to significant savings. So, I would recommend you to enquire about the offers for European residents first and only select Eurail if Interrail and Eurodomino do not apply.
